Alexa
Alexa is a Bay Area born-and-raised musician with over a decade of teaching experience. She is an adjunct instructor of Musicianship and Piano at the College of San Mateo, where she received her AA in Music in 2019. Her studies across various instruments through her childhood ultimately led her to pursuing piano studies at CSM, where she began her studies with Jane Jackson, who is her continuing mentor. In the midst of the pandemic, she finished the bulk of her upper-division studies online and received her Bachelor of Music with honors from San Francisco State University.Between 2019 and 2021, Alexa received the Presser Undergraduate Award for her outstanding academic achievements, as well as the Ross McKee Foundation/Paul Andrieu Memorial and William Corbett Jones Piano Scholarship awards for piano performance. Following her 2021 graduation, she promptly returned to SFSU to pursue her MA in Composition. During her time in the master's program, she composed and performed in collaboration with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Arts, and commissioned a piece for members of San Francisco-based Earplay. Her culminating work for her master's centers around scoring video games of varying genres.In her decade of private instruction, Alexa has worked with students of all ages, from toddlers to retirees. Her teaching philosophy centers around her infectious love of music, the art of practicing, and the joy of playing piano.In addition to teaching, Alexa is signed onto Monochrome Motif Records in the UK as a composer and collaborating artist, and every few months, she scores video games with teams comprised of artists and software developers across the world. Beyond music, Alexa enjoys fiber arts, competitive video games, and playing Dungeons & Dragons with her friends.
